Could the Anti Smoking Law in Britain Take Bingo Enthusiasts Online?

A lot has been stated in the papers not long ago regarding the bingo industry being hit as a result of the cigarette ban in the United Kingdom. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big tax breaks to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. But will the online adaptation of this traditional game offer a escape, or might it in no way compare to its land based peer?

Bingo is an ancient game normally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game recently had witnessed a recent comeback in popularity with younger men and women opting to visit the bingo parlors in place of the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the cigarette ban across Britain.

Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public place will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored areas where people like to smoke.

The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Players have plunged and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where have the players gone? Of course they have not deserted this established game?

The answer is on the internet. Players realize that they can bet on bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and smoke and still enjoy huge jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course gambling on on the web is unlikely to replace the social part of heading down to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of players the rules have left a lot of bingo players with little alternative.
