Bingo and Oklahoma: 2 birds of a feather

[ English ]

Oklahoma has for a long time been synonymous with Bingo. That is due to the fact that the American Indian tribes of Oklahoma have operated Bingo sessions for decades. Clients from each of the surrounding states pile in cars and travel to Oklahoma to enjoy Bingo over the weekends.

The 1988 IGRA became law after a precedent setting ruling by The U.S. Supreme Court just the prior year. From that instance, 23 of the thirty nine Indian tribes located in Oklahoma have introduced gaming halls. The Chickasaw were the first Oklahoma Indian tribes to take advantage of the gambling rules, and today run ten gambling dens of their own. Bingo was the game on which these casinos were founded. computerized games such as slot machines were not authorized, since they’re believed to lead to gambling problems more than bingo.

In recent years, Oklahoma governing edicts have altered to allow for massive American Indian wagering casinos. You will now see Amerindian casinos with slot machines, video poker and black jack tables. Craps and roulette are not yet allowed in the Native gambling halls yet, however this is simply a matter of time. No one can authority what having different gambling hall games in the bingo parlors will do for the popularity of bingo.
