Can the Cigarette Ban in England Force Bingo Enthusiasts Online?

[ English ]

An abundance has been talked in the press not long ago concerning the bingo industry being hit as a result of the anti smoking law in England. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big tax breaks to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. However will the online variation of this quintessential game present a salvation, or might it in no way compare to its real life equivalent?

Bingo is an classic game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game recently had seen a recent comeback in popularity with younger people opting to hit the bingo parlours rather than the discos on a weekend. This is all about to be destroyed with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law all over Britain.

Players will no longer be able to puff on cigarettes whilst dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 every public area will not be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most common places where people enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo parlours. Players have plummeted and the business is literally fighting for its life. But where have the players gone? Obviously they haven’t given up on this familiar game?

The answer is on the web. People are now realizing that they can gamble on bingo using their computer while enjoying a beverage and fag and in the end, enjoy massive jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.

Of course gambling on on the net could never replace the communal portion of going down to the bingo hall, but for a group of players the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
