Can the Smoking Ban in England Take Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Net?

A lot has been reported in the press recently about the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in England. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive aid to help keep the industry afloat. However will the internet adaptation of this quintessential game provide a lifeline, or might it never compare to its land based equivalent?

Bingo has been an familiar game generally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game recently had undergone a recent increase in acceptance with younger people deciding to hit the bingo parlours in place of the bars on a Saturday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the introduction of the anti cigarette law throughout Britain.

Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public places will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favorite places where people like to puff on cigarettes.

The effects of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already illegal in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plunged and the business is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Surely they have not deserted this age old game?

The answer is on the net. People know that they can participate in bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and fag and in the end, have a chance at monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course betting on online can never replace the collective aspect of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of players the law has left a number of bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
